Pato O’Ward won the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio last week. But the Hy-Vee Homefront 250 and the Hy-Vee One Step 250 are back on oval circuits this weekend. Colton Herta led the field after securing pole position in the Hy-Vee Homefront 250 last night.
Soon after the race started, David Malukas made a mistake and crashed into Romain Grosjean and Agustin Canapino at Turn Two, causing the caution flags to fly all around the track. Christian Lundgaard also span at the same corner, but he was not a part of the other event.

Scott McLaughlin won the Hy-Vee Homefront 250 on Saturday at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa, after holding the lead for a record-breaking 164 laps. In the 250-lap race, McLaughlin defeated Pato O’Ward by 0.4814 seconds to win his maiden oval IndyCar race. “I didn’t want to call myself an IndyCar driver until I won on an oval,” McLaughlin stated. “So, I’m going to call myself an IndyCar driver now.” Despite leading for the first 86 laps, Colton Herta came in eleventh place. After the first cautionary stop, the race’s lead was taken by Herta, but McLaughlin overtook him when he emerged from pit road with a head of steam.

Alex Palou, the leader of the championship, experienced a dramatic moment when he spun on the start-finish straight and raised another yellow flag. For McLaughlin, the leader of the race, this was ideal timing as he entered the pits among the other competitors. But Herta had only stopped three laps ago.
McLaughlin once again had to lead the field away from four further restarts as Linus Lundqvist retired with 50 laps to go, Herta spun out of race-winning contention at turn three with 28 laps to go and then Ed Carpenter and Pietro Fittipaldi collided.
At the end of the race, McLaughlin ended up being the clear winner as he took the chequered flag. Behind him, O’Ward and Josef Newgarden rounded out the podium positions.
In the remaining positions in the top five it was Scott Dixon in fourth and Rinus Veekay in fifth. With Santino Ferrucci, Kyle Kirkwood, Alexander Rossi, Marcus Ericsson and Marcus Armstrong rounding out the top ten.
