Tony Hawk and Keanu Reeves have been discussing their favorite songs and engaging in a little mutual infatuation.

Reeves was a guest on the skating legend Hawk Vs. Wolf podcast, where they talked about video games and music. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Hawk’s Pro Skater soundtrack. The show was a major factor in the early 2000s surge of interest in skate punk, nu-metal, and similar genres.

“Music played a significant role in skating, particularly during the early years of the 1970s and 1980s,” Hawk stated. I therefore wanted to portray the culture, including music, when I got to do a game. I was only including bands that I grew up listening to. Obtaining them was simple.

In terms of the retro soundtrack, that was my contribution to the game, he said. “Then, to get newer bands at the time, the stuff that people associate with [the games], like Goldfinger, Powerman 5000, Fu Manchu, stuff like that, they (the games company) had their own pretty robust music department.”
