ALI CAMPBELL FIGHTS BACK AGAINST FORMER UB40 BANDMATES IN BITTER DISPUTE OVER BAND’S NAME

A bitter dispute has erupted between Ali Campbell, the founding member and original lead singer of UB40, and his former bandmates over the use of the band’s name. Campbell’s former bandmates and their management have been attempting to stop him from performing shows globally, including his upcoming show in Uganda, claiming that he has no legal right to use the name UB40.

However, Campbell’s team has fired back, stating that he is the rightful owner of the name and has been using it continuously since leaving the original band in 2008. They also pointed out that Campbell has been touring and releasing successful albums under the name UB40 Featuring Ali Campbell, while his former bandmates have not achieved the same level of success.

The dispute has been ongoing for some time, with Campbell’s former bandmates and their management sending emails and making calls to promoters and TV stations, claiming that UB40 will not be performing and threatening legal action. However, Campbell’s team has emphasized that he has never tried to stop his former bandmates from using the name UB40 and that his shows are clearly advertised as UB40 Featuring Ali Campbell.

According to Campbell’s team, the dispute is not just about the use of the band’s name, but also about the legacy and history of UB40. Campbell was the founding member of the band and was instrumental in shaping its sound and style. He was also the lead singer on many of the band’s biggest hits, including “Red Red Wine” and “One in Ten”.

Campbell’s former bandmates, including his brother Robin Campbell, have been touring and performing under the name UB40, but without Ali Campbell’s involvement. However, Campbell’s team has pointed out that his former bandmates have not been transparent about Ali’s absence from the band, and have instead used footage of him to promote their shows.

The dispute has sparked a heated debate among UB40 fans, with some supporting Ali Campbell’s right to use the band’s name, while others believe that the name should be retired or used only by the original members.

Despite the opposition, Campbell remains committed to his music and his fans. He will continue to perform and record the hits of UB40, spreading his love of reggae music globally. As he prepares to take the stage in Uganda, Campbell is confident that his fans will know the truth about the dispute and will continue to support him.

“It’s not about the name, it’s about the music,” Campbell said in a statement. “I’m proud of what I’ve achieved with UB40, and I’m excited to continue sharing that music with my fans around the world.”

The dispute may be far from over, but one thing is clear: Ali Campbell will not be silenced, and he will continue to make music that inspires and uplifts his fans.
