The Chicago Cubs have been making waves this offseason, and fans are eagerly anticipating the 2025 season. With several key signings and trades, the team is shaping up to be a formidable force in the National League.

One of the most notable additions to the Cubs’ roster is veteran lefty Caleb Thielbar, who signed a one-year Major League contract with the team. Thielbar brings a wealth of experience to the bullpen, having pitched for the Minnesota Twins and Miami Marlins in previous seasons.

“Caleb is a proven reliever who will add depth and flexibility to our bullpen,” said Cubs President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer. “We’re excited to have him on board and think he’ll be a great fit for our team.”

In addition to Thielbar, the Cubs have also been linked to several top free agents, including Jack Flaherty. According to reports, Flaherty is predicted to sign with the Cubs on a four-year, $92 million contract. Flaherty had a strong 2024 campaign with the Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Dodgers, posting a 3.17 ERA and 194 strikeouts in 162 innings.

“Jack is a talented young pitcher who has already shown he can dominate at the highest level,” said Hoyer. “We think he’ll be a great addition to our rotation and help us compete for a postseason spot.”

The Cubs have also made some significant trades, including acquiring utilityman Vidal Bruján from the Miami Marlins. Bruján brings a unique combination of speed, power, and defensive versatility to the Cubs’ roster.

“Vidal is a dynamic player who can help us in a lot of different ways,” said Cubs manager David Ross. “We’re excited to have him on board and think he’ll be a great fit for our team.”

In addition to the trades and free agent signings, the Cubs have also been busy on the prospect front. Matt Shaw, the team’s top prospect, is gaining attention as a potential NL Rookie of the Year candidate. Shaw had a breakout season in the minors last year, hitting .300 with 20 home runs and 80 RBIs.

“Matt is a talented young player who has a bright future ahead of him,” said Ross. “We’re excited to see what he can do at the big league level.”

The Cubs’ farm system is also expected to be a key area of focus in the coming season. With several top prospects, including Shaw, outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong, and pitcher Jordan Wicks, the team is well-positioned for long-term success.

Finally, the Cubs have announced the schedule for this year’s Cubs Convention, which will take place from January 17 to 19 at the Sheraton Grand Chicago. Fans can look forward to meeting the team, attending autograph sessions, and getting a sneak peek at the upcoming season.

“We’re excited to connect with our fans and give them a glimpse of what’s to come in 2025,” said Hoyer. “It’s going to be a fun and exciting season, and we can’t wait to get started.”
