Breaking: Bengals Extends Punter Ryan Rehkow’s Contract…

Ryan Rehkow Extended Through 2026 After Effective Rookie Year

The Cincinnati Bengals announced on Tuesday they signed punter Ryan Rehkow to a two-year extension.

The Cincinnati Bengals have secured their special teams’ future by signing punter Ryan Rehkow to a two-year contract extension, keeping him with the team through the 2026 NFL season. Rehkow, who will enter his second year in 2025, originally joined the Bengals as an undrafted free agent from Brigham Young University (BYU) during the 2024 offseason. His impressive rookie performance has solidified his role as a key contributor to the team’s success. Rehkow, 26, won the Bengals’ starting punter job during preseason and was rewarded with a new contract

In his debut season, Rehkow played in all 17 games, recording 53 punts for a total of 2,603 yards. He set new franchise records with a gross punting average of 49.1 yards and a net average of 42.9 yards, leading all rookies in these categories for the 2024 season. Notably, in his first NFL game against the New England Patriots on September 8, Rehkow achieved an NFL single-game record by averaging 64.5 yards per punt (minimum four attempts) and set a team record with an 80-yard punt.

Rehkow’s outstanding performance did not go unnoticed, as he was named to the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA) All-Rookie Team. His ability to consistently flip field position has been a significant asset for the Bengals, addressing a position that had seen inconsistency since the retirement of long-time punter Kevin Huber in 2022.

With Rehkow’s extension, the Bengals have ensured stability in their special teams unit for the foreseeable future. This move complements the team’s earlier decision to secure kicker Evan McPherson through the 2027 season, highlighting the organization’s commitment to maintaining a strong and reliable special teams lineup.
