The Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers are prepared to face off in the struggle to emerge victorious from the Eastern Conference. Nick Nurse, their seasoned head coach, is in charge of two formidable players. Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid have established themselves as true superstars. They strengthened their wing talent further by adding Paul George in the NBA Free Agency. The starting five of this team genuinely doesn’t have many holes in it.
All of this, however, hinges on Paul George’s ability to get along with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. The star guard and the former Most Valuable Player took some time to click.
It might not be the same at all for the All-NBA star who was just signed via NBA Free Agency to man the wings. According to Maxey, based only on George’s playing style and player archetype, the 76ers will be a perfect fit for him (via Take Off with John Clark).
“He’s that guy who you can pick up and plug into any system because of his talent. He’s 6’9. This guy can shoot the ball, rebound the ball, and pass the ball well. Play on the ball, play off the ball, play off hand-offs, play off transitions. Like, you know, the sky is the limit,” Tyrese Maxey said.
Paul George knows how to support and play well with other celebrities. The latest examples of this from while he was with the Los Angeles Clippers include James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and Kawhi Leonard. George’s tendency to dominate the ball is a cause for concern. This is particularly true given how frequently Joel Embiid plays face-ups and post-up moves. The 76ers guard is not at that concerned about this, though.
“You have to be able to play off the ball and in hand-off situations with a player like Joel Embiid, who is the best player in the league. Being versatile requires doing a number of different things, and I believe he could do that. He could lead those troops as well as play with the second unit, in my opinion. We’ll see, then. Coach Nurse is responsible for determining our game plan. I just follow Coach Nurse’s instructions when I’m outside. It will be fantastic,” he said.
George scored 22.6 points from all three levels of the field at a 47.1% clip. This was in the Clippers system with guys that loved to play with the ball in their hands. He also continues to have an impact on the game thanks to his 1.5 steals and 5.2 rebounds. His stature is probably going to distract opponents from Embiid as well. He won’t falter either when the 76ers actually need him to facilitate. George is a competent dime-dropper, as seen by his 3.5 assists.
