The Giants have the No. 6 pick in the draft, which will happen between April 25-27 in Detroit, Michigan. The 2024 Draft class is packed with talented quarterbacks like Caleb Williams (USC), Drake Maye (North Carolina), and Jayden Daniels (LSU), who are expected to be the first three picks.
In the 2023 offseason, Jones inked a four-year deal for $160 million (£126 million) with the Giants, who made the decision to re-sign the quarterback after using their franchise tag on running back Saquon Barkley. But the Giants had a difficult season the previous year, winning only six of their seventeen games, and Jones only appeared in six of those games, losing five of them.
Due to injuries, which included a torn ACL and neck issues, Jones had a challenging season. He only managed to throw two touchdowns and six interceptions. But Schoen made it plain on Tuesday who he believes is the best option when he said, “I have faith in Daniel Jones as our starting quarterback.”
There were rumours that the Giants might choose a future quarterback because of their high draft pick, but Schoen confirmed that this isn’t part of their immediate plans, even though Jones is just getting back on the field. Speaking live from the NFL combine on Tuesday, Schoen eased Jones’ concerns with a clear statement of intent ahead of the draft.
“He’s actually throwing, he’s been throwing for about two weeks stationary,” Schoen said. “He’s not dropping back or any of that stuff. He’s on track, he’s doing everything he can to get back and we are optimistic about where he is… we haven’t had any setbacks yet.
“If he continues at that pace he should be ready at the start of training camp.” That doesn’t mean that the Giants won’t select quarterbacks in the draft, especially as their lack of depth was clear to see in 2023.
