For the first time, LeBron James and Luka Doncic sat together on the bench for the same NBA team. That reality, brought to fruition by a shock trade between the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers, has altered the landscape of the NBA, as the Lakers now have two of the best playmakers and scorers in the league on their team.
While Doncic is yet to debut for the Lakers, his first minutes in their famed purple-and-gold uniform are not far away. The Slovenia international is in the final stages of his recovery from a calf injury, and his “fantasy basketball” partnership with James is leaving many fans salivating as to what Los Angeles can acheive for the remainder of this season into next — especially as LeBron’s historic career is coming to a close
James was shocked that the Lakers were able to pull off such a major deal, even as it cost him a cherished championship-level running mate in Anthony Davis. When speaking to the media on Wednesday, James assured reporters that he had no “concerns” about partnering with Doncic to deliver a record 18th championship to Los Angeles, but fans remain anxious to see the duo in action.
LeBron James, when asked about the Lakers making the Luka Doncic trade with an eye on the future, replied, “What’s wrong with that? If I had any concerns I would have waived my no trade clause and got up out of here”
James and Doncic were seen chatting it up on the bench at various points during the Lakers’ 122-97 blowout win over the city rival Clippers on Tuesday night — a result that brought the 29-19 Lakers to within one game of the third-place Houston Rockets in the cutthroat Western Conference. Though neither player can just yet speak to the specifics of how they will play off one another, these two future Hall of Fame-level talents will reveal all in due course.
