McDonald’s have teamed up with WNBA star Angel Reese to create a brand-new menu item, making it the first national meal collaboration with a female athlete.

The Angel Reese special will be available in the US from February 10 for a limited time, which will have a BBQ bacon quarter pounder with cheese, a medium fries, and a medium drink. Reese expressed her excitement about the partnership, calling it a dream come true.

“McDonald’s has always been a big part of my life, from grabbing a McChicken sandwich as a kid to being named a McDonald’s All American in 2020,” the Chicago Sky power forward said in a press release. “It’s really a dream come true to be the first-ever female athlete to have my own meal and be a part of McDonald’s amazing basketball legacy.”

What’s in the Angel Reese special?

McDonald’s has crafted a meal that matches Reese’s personality and style. The centrepiece is the BBQ bacon quarter pounder with cheese, topped with the new bold BBQ sauce.

According to McDonald’s, the sauce is a ‘game-changer’ bringing a unique mix of sweet, savoury, and spicy flavours. Fans will also get a medium portion of McDonald’s iconic fries and a medium drink to complete the meal.

The meal’s pricing will vary depending on location, with individual restaurants setting their own prices. Fans can order the special through the McDonald’s app, at restaurants, or via drive-thru.

McDonald’s has a long history of collaborating with basketball stars. From Michael Jordan’s “McJordan special” in the 1990s to more recent partnerships, the brand has continuously embraced basketball culture.

Jennifer “JJ” Healan, vice president of marketing, brand, content, and culture at McDonald’s, spoke highly of the new deal. “We want to continue to fuel [fans’] love for the game and support athletes on and off the court,” she said. “We’re excited to bring our legacy with basketball culture to a new generation, and partnering with Angel is only the beginning.”

The Angel Reese special follows a trend of celebrity meals at McDonald’s, with previous collaborations featuring Travis Scott, BTS, and Saweetie. However, this marks a major milestone as the first national meal at McDonald’s featuring a female athlete.

With the WNBA season approaching and Reese continuing to make waves in the sport, her collaboration with McDonald’s stands out for both basketball and fast food enthusiasts. Whether you’re a fan of Reese’s on-court performances or simply love a good burger, this special meal is one you won’t want to miss.
