The Las Vegas Raiders have added depth to their tight end unit by signing unrestricted free agent Ian Thomas, the team announced Tuesday.
Thomas, a seasoned veteran, arrives in Las Vegas after spending seven seasons (2018-2024) with the Carolina Panthers. Drafted in the fourth round (101st overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft, he established himself as a reliable contributor in Carolina’s offense, appearing in 99 career games with 54 starts. Over his tenure with the Panthers, he amassed 119 receptions for 1,062 yards (8.9 avg.) and four touchdowns.
During the 2024 season, Thomas played in five games, making two starts before being placed on the Reserve/Injured List. His most productive season came as a rookie in 2018, when he recorded career highs in receptions (36), receiving yards (333), and touchdowns (two), showcasing his potential as a pass-catching threat.
Now set to wear No. 80 for the Silver and Black, Thomas brings a blend of experience, versatility, and blocking ability to the Raiders’ tight end group.
A Baltimore, Md. native, Thomas began his collegiate career at Nassau Community College before transferring to Indiana University, where he played two seasons (2016-2017). In his senior year, he earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors, finishing with five touchdowns and an impressive 15.0 yards per reception—ranking 12th and fifth among tight ends nationwide in those categories.
As the Raiders continue to shape their roster, Thomas’ arrival adds valuable depth and experience, providing another option in both the passing game and run-blocking schemes. His veteran presence will complement the team’s offensive strategy as they gear up for the upcoming season.
