It wouldn’t be news if Lachie Neale was on the cover of the annual AFL Record Season Guide book.

The Brisbane star was a controversial but deserving 2023 Brownlow Medallist, garnering 31 votes ahead of the Bulldogs’ Marcus Bontempelli (29) and Collingwood’s Nick Daicos (28), who missed the final three games of the season.

But, as is customary, winning the AFL’s top individual award gave him the honor of being the cover boy of the annual statistics bible, which contains years of data and is studied by commentators and experts throughout the season.

However, it appears that no one informed Collingwood supporters about this.

AFL 2023: Collingwood fans erupt after Brisbane's Lachie Neale on cover of 2024 AFL Record stats book, Twitter down, Brownlow Medal, latest news

“Who took home the flag?” “I doubt many will sell (crying laughing emoji),” tweeted one Magpies supporter.

“Runners-up edition: When does the Premiership edition come out?” joked another.

“Poor form,” observed another. Definitely not worth $50. You truly didn’t consider this.”

“It’s always been the Brownlow medallist,” a fourth wrote. I’m ashamed to be affiliated with some Pies supporters, far out!”

As AAP journalist Oliver Caffrey pointed out, despite losing the Grand Final the previous year, Collingwood’s Nathan Buckley appeared on the cover of the 2004 edition.
