On Saturday, December 23, the Celtics play the Los Angeles Clippers in a Saturday matinée, the third game of their four-game West Coast swing. Two of their big men, including Porzingis, will be absent. Porzingis will miss time due to an ankle sprain suffered in a 144-119 victory over the Sacramento Kings. Luke c the backup center, is also sidelined with a left adductor injury.

Porzingis had only recently returned from a calf injury when he rolled his ankle late in the Kings’ victory. Porzingis dominated from inside the paint with center Al Horford resting on the second part of a back-to-back. He finished with 24 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 blocks.

Regardless of the numbers, Celtics fans should be concerned about Porzingis. Despite the fact that his most recent injury was a fluke, he’s developed a habit of missing quality time.

Why Brad Stevens is 'not concerned' with Kristaps Porzingis' injury

Last week, while nursing his injured calf, Porzingis expressed a desire to return to the court, but it was more a question of the Celtics being cautious.

“It’s just that I think the medical staff is taking a more cautious approach, especially the first couple weeks coming back from the calf,” Porzingis told The Boston Globe on December 17. “But they understand my position: I want to play in every game they allow me to.” But, of course, they want to be cautious about my health. Make certain I’m there for the long haul.”

Despite Porzingis’ ailments, the Celtics have the best record in the NBA, sitting at 21-6.

Despite his injuries, Porzingis has been exactly what the Celtics have needed.
Yes, Porzingis has already missed seven games and will sit out his eighth against the high-powered Clippers.

With Porzingis in the lineup, Boston is a whole different squad. The Celtics, who are already thin in the frontcourt, can’t afford to lose their top center for an extended period of time, so Boston’s medical team is being cautious. However, being cautious with someone who has a history of injuries is an issue.
