The Saints may be out of the playoffs once more, but the performance of these players in a rout of the Falcons is an encouraging indication moving into the offseason.

The New Orleans Saints brought their 2023-24 season to a close with a 48-17 demolition of the Atlanta Falcons. New Orleans, who finished 9-8, finished the year strong by winning four of five and dismantling rivals Tampa Bay and Atlanta in their last two games.

Atlanta tore through the New Orleans defense in their first two drives, rolling up 169 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Falcons QB Desmond Ridder completed all five of his throws for 157 yards, including two long gains against New Orleans coverage breakdowns

After that, the Saints defense shut them down. The Falcons had only 220 yards over their final 11 drives as New Orleans recorded three second half turnovers that they converted into 21 points. In the last three matchups against the Saints, Atlanta averaged 220 rushing yards. This time, New Orleans clamped down to allow only 78 on the ground and just 3.4 per carry.

While the Saints were good defensively, this win was mostly because of an offensive explosion we hadn’t seen all season. With a third-string RT and without RB Alvin Kamara, New Orleans rolled for 400 total yards, 27 first downs, and their first 40-point game since Christmas Day of 2020.
