The last time we saw the Michigan Wolverines in action, it was in the Big Ten championship game against Iowa, when star cornerback Will Johnson sat out due to injury, center Drake Nugent was in and out of the lineup due to injury, and quarterback J.J. McCarthy was dealing with a lower-body ailment that kept him more immobile than the coaching staff would have liked.

However, thanks to nearly a month off, the players have been able to recover very well ahead of this afternoon’s Rose Bowl against Alabama in the College Football Playoff semifinal round.

Michigan's Will Johnson aims to be ready as he plays through injury

It’s fantastic to see Johnson removed from the injury report. He got injured in the Ohio State game last month and missed the Big Ten Championship Game as a result. To keep Isaiah Bond and Jermaine Burton at bay, the Wolverines need him to be at his best.

Nugent is also fully healthy and ready to play in today’s game. He hurt his ankle against Ohio State and then worsened it in the Big Ten Championship. He had a few weeks off to recover and has just lately resumed practice, so it’s reassuring that he doesn’t even show on the injury report.

Waller’s name is fresh to the injury report. This season, the true freshman cornerback has been a solid depth piece for Jesse Minter and the Michigan defense, so he should be available if needed this afternoon.
