Joe Schoen, general manager of the New York Giants, spent most of last summer looking for playmakers at wide receiver. He selected Jalin Hyatt in the draft and signed Parris Campbell in free agency, with mixed results.

Let’s take a look at how the wide receiver position performed in 2023 and project what it may look like in 2024.

Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson, Jalin Hyatt, Isaiah Hodgins, Sterling Shepard and Parris CampbellLet’s go over the players one by one.

In 2023, Slayton simply continued to be himself. For the fourth time in five seasons, he led the Giants in receiving yards and finished with more than 700 yards. He caught 50 passes, marking the fourth time in five seasons that he has had 46 to 50 catches. He caught four touchdown passes. His 101.8 passer rating when targeted was the greatest of his career.

The most amazing thing Slayton accomplished in 2023 was lowering his drop rate. After losing 10.3% of his targets in 2021 and 9.9% last season, he dropped only three of 79 targets in 2023, for a 3.8% drop rate.

Slayton accomplished all of this with three different quarterbacks: Daniel Jones, Tommy Devito, and Tyrod Taylor. He has had a good, if unspectacular, career despite the Giants’ frequent offensive disarray.
