The 38-year-old forward Corey Perry has agreed to a one-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers, which is for the minimum $775,000.

In 16 games this season with the Chicago Blackhawks, Perry recorded four goals, five assists, and nine points before the team cut him go in November.

“(Perry) engaged in conduct that is unacceptable, and in violation of both the terms of his standard player’s contract and the Blackhawks’ internal policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments,” the statement from the team reads, though the specifics are still unclear.

“I would like to sincerely apologize to the entire Chicago Blackhawks organization, including ownership, management, coaches, trainers, employees, and my teammates,” Perry said in his post-incident apology. In addition, I want to apologize to my family and my fans. I’ve let you all down and feel mortified.

With 53 points, the Oilers are 26-15-1 and third in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. The Oilers’ winning run reached a team record 13 games on Saturday after defeating the division foe Calgary Flames 3-1. They are currently four games away from tying the 17-game winning streak of the Pittsburgh Penguins from the 1992–93 season.

In 1,273 career games across 19 NHL seasons, Perry—who was selected by the Anaheim Ducks with the 28th overall pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft—has 421 goals and 471 assists for 892 points. He has played for the Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Blackhawks.

In 196 career post-season games, Perry has contributed 53 goals and 71 assists for 124 points. He has also participated in the Stanley Cup Playoffs fifteen times. In the latter part of his career, he went to three straight Stanley Cup Finals with three different teams: 2020 with the Stars, 2021 with the Canadiens, and 2022 with the Lightning. He won a Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2007.
