The Los Angeles Chargers have long viewed Jim Harbaugh, the head coach of the University of Michigan Wolverines and the current national champion of the College Football Playoffs, as their top candidate for head coach; however, this hasn’t stopped Bolts ownership from speaking with a number of other contenders. Although it seems the Atlanta Falcons are ready to eliminate themselves from the race following a recent second interview with former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, they are still obviously interested in Harbaugh’s services. NBC Sports’ Mike Florio points out that Los Angeles and a Michigan comeback might be the only teams still in the race for Harbaugh.

Check out the Bellingham Herald’s article on the NFL (284506670.html) for additional information ,to Florio the two NFL teams most interested in Harbaugh are the Chargers and Falcons. “It looks like the Chargers or no one for Harbaugh if, as it seems, he is Bill Belichick’s backup plan in Atlanta (or, maybe, the internal candidate favored by people who are more likely to be dismissed or neutered by Belichick). Additionally, Harbaugh may wind up receiving the highest salary to remain at Michigan if the Chargers are taking a risk with him.” It’s also possible that Harbaugh is leveraging all of this discussion as leverage in negotiations and is content to remain in Ann Arbor in exchange for a higher compensation. Given that Nick Saban is departing, Harbaugh may soon become a recruitment magnet as well.
