The 26-year-old’s new training schedule will cut into more than a month of his pre-season preparations, but he is expected to be cleared for a Round 1 match against Melbourne in mid-March.

English is reportedly not battling a concussion, as the Bulldogs have informed News Corp that their top player is addressing “a medical issue.”

English is scheduled to resume contact training two weeks following the Dogs’ first week of training again.

Before the Footscray-based team kicks off its 2024 campaign against Melbourne at the MCG on Saturday, March 16, the Bulldogs are slated to play two pre-season games against Hawthorn in late February or early March.

English was named the premiership ruckman of the competition after having a career-best season in which he averaged 19.13 disposals, 31.17 hitouts, and 3.22 clearances per game. This earned him his first All-Australian blazer award.

The product of Western Australia, who is unsigned for 2025, is anticipated to draw significant interest from the West Coast as the Bulldogs attempt to hold onto their 208-cm big man.

Top players Bailey Smith and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, who are both unsigned through 2024, will also be available to the Dogs. Smith will miss the entire upcoming season because of an ACL injury he suffered earlier in the preseason.
