In the final moments of Newcastle United’s 2-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday, Kieran Trippier was forced to leave the game due to an apparent injury. Eddie Howe was quick to downplay the incident.

For just the second time since 2006, The Magpies made it to the FA Cup’s fifth round thanks to goals from Sean Longstaff and Dan Burn. Emil Krafth took Trippier’s place in the closing moments of the game.

Howe responded, “We hope so,” when asked if Trippier was alright following the game. He’s been complaining for a while about a groyne issue.

Today he just said he was a bit fatigued at the end. Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious and no new injury

Next up for Newcastle is a trip to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Tuesday night (8:15pm kick-off), a match Trippier himself claimed he would be ‘fine’ to feature in

After the game, the United right-back gave an explanation for his substitution to BBC Radio Newcastle.

“I’m fine, I’ve been managing a minor groyne issue, nothing major at all,” he remarked. “Just precaution really but I’m feeling fine, feeling all right and I’ll be fine for the next game.”

Trippier asserted that he is totally focused on and committed to Newcastle and that any transfer rumours regarding a move to Bayern Munich are “over.” The Magpies will be looking to welcome back Callum Wilson from injury, and Joe Willock and Harvey Barnes are also nearing returns following extended injury spells. Trippier is set to play against Villa on Tuesday.
