Eddie Howe was cautious about Miguel Almiron’s future at Newcastle, as the forward faces an unclear future at St James’ Park.

Almiron is desired by Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab and did not play in Saturday’s FA Cup fourth round victory against Fulham, according to Howe.

When asked if the Saudi interest is still there, Howe replied: “I’m not in daily or hourly communication with what’s happening.

“It’s possible that someone will leave before the window. That hasn’t changed. We need to wait and see what happens.”

When asked if he would close the window now that there were no incomings or outgoings, Howe responded, “That is a really clever question. Yeah, I would smash the window shut. That is with no understanding of what will happen in the next days.

Howe: Newcastle may need to sell Joelinton this summer.
Eddie Howe has confirmed that star midfielder Joelinton may be moved this summer as Newcastle struggle with financial constraints.

The Magpies have spent the last week rejecting offers from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich for England full-back Kieran Trippier, while strikers Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron have also been linked with moves away from Tyneside after chief executive Darren Eales revealed that the club may have to trade players to meet Premier League profit and sustainability rules.
