ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Dave McMenamin report that Jarred Vanderbilt, a forward, would miss many weeks because of an ailment to his right foot that is not yet known. He suffered his first injury in the first half of the Los Angeles Lakers’ unexpected 114-105 victory over the Boston Celtics on Thursday night. He had started the game in place of the injured All-Star LeBron James.

Wojnarowski claims that Vanderbilt might not even be out for a few weeks. To determine the full degree of the injury, the Lakers’ medical staff will examine his right midfoot area in more detail.

When the injury originally happened, the results of the initial tests were negative. The Lakers would suffer a great deal if Vanderbilt were to miss a significant length of time, but this is the best news for any injury of this kind.

He was just starting to come into his own and has been one of the Lakers’ more important players this season. This is sad news for the young forward as Vanderbilt missed the opening portion of the season due to an injury.

With the Lakers struggling to stay above the .500 mark in the standings, the team will need others to step up. They are already without forward Cam Reddish for the next few weeks, so the Lakers have once again been bitten by the injury bug.

The Lakers head to New York to face the Knicks on Saturday, and then to Charlotte for a matchup with the Hornets to finish their road trip. They then go back home for a matchup with the defending champion Denver Nuggets.
