Aidan Sezer, a former halfback for the Gold Coast Titans and Canberra Raiders, has signed with the Wests Tigers from Leeds Rhinos for the 2024 NRL season.

After spending four seasons playing for both the Leeds Rhinos and the Huddersfield Giants in the UK Super League, the 32-year-old will rejoin the NRL.

Sezer participated in 155 NRL games across eight seasons prior to relocating to England. In 2019, he played in the Raiders’ Grand Final.

Benji Marshall, the coach of the Wests Tigers, thought Sezer would be a great asset to the team because of his vast expertise.

“Having a player with Aidan’s experience and caliber to add to what we’re building for our future excites us greatly,” Marshall stated.

“His experience, especially in our spine, will complement our youth and help mentor our younger players.”

“It’s great that Aidan has decided to return to the NRL with us,” said Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe upon Sezer’s arrival.

“I welcome Aidan and his family to Wests Tigers on behalf of the club.”

Even before making his Wests Tigers debut, the former Leeds star’s future is unknown. This is as a result of Jarome Luai joining the Tigers for $6 million, which is equivalent to £3 million.

This implies that he will be selected into the halves for the upcoming season, and given the abundance of talented young halfbacks on the Tigers, Sezer will have pressure to maintain his position before the 2025 campaign begins.

This offers him and the other halfbacks at the team a significant incentive before the upcoming campaign, but as his contract is only for one season, he may decide to leave when Jarome Luai signs with the team at the end of the current campaign.

It is unclear what Sezer will do next. There have been rumors that he would probably move to the lower levels, where David Fifita and Blake Austin are.
