At the All-Star Game in Denver on February 4, 2001, Edmonton’s captain teamed up with his old Oilers teammate and close friend Bill Guerin to lead Team North America to a 14–12 triumph over Team World. Less than twelve weeks prior, the Oilers had dealt Guerin to the Boston Bruins.
The two best friends worked together to create magic, just as they had when they played together for 2.5 years in Edmonton, with Weight helping on two goals and Guerin helping on one. Weight contributed three assists and a goal, but Guerin’s hat trick and two assists would not have been possible without Weight’s assistance. Guerin was awarded MVP.
