The whole New York Giants fan base has been anxiously expecting word from East Rutherford regarding the new defensive coordinator on the squad. Though there have been seven candidates culled from various rumors, head coach Brian Daboll has not disclosed his plans to replaceink Martindale, which has some Giants fans alarmed. Why? Some people think the Giants will have to “settle” for a candidate who might not have gotten serious consideration earlier because all NFL head coaching positions are now occupied.

Joe Schoen takes fault for Giants' punt-returning woes

At the same time, others are concerned that with the Shrine and Senior Bowl games being in the books, the Giants’ scouting work at those events was more generic than specific, given they don’t have direction from a defensive coordinator regarding what he want

It appears that, at least in the eyes of General Manager Joe Schoen, Giants supporters do not need to fret about the scouting aspect of things.

Schoen stated that the team would exercise patience if the hiring process takes longer than expected. Last week at the Senior Bowl, Schoen told Alex Marvez and Bill Polian of SiriusXM NFL Radio that the team hoped to conclude their defensive coordinator search by “the end of the week,” which has since passed. “Ideally, we’d like to have it done by the end of the week, but if we don’t, again, we’re gonna take our time and, you know, continue to find the best, you know, person for the job,” he stated.

For those who are worried about how long it’s taking to fill the position, it should be noted that Martindale, who quit his position last month, wasn’t recruited until February 11, 2022. However, what if a new defensive coordinator decides to play a different strategy than the one the Giants employed under Martindale for the previous two seasons? Once more, Schoen downplayed that worry, emphasizing that the Giants don’t always sign players who are the greatest fits for a single strategy.
