Mike Macdonald left the Ravens to take a job as head coach of the Seahawks, and Zach Orr was elevated from inside linebackers coach to defensive coordinator promptly thereafter.

After his playing career with Baltimore ended due to injuries after just three seasons, Orr, 31, began coaching with the Ravens in 2017. In 2022, he returned to the Ravens as the inside linebackers coach after serving as the outside linebackers coach for the Jaguars in 2021.

That indicates that during the past two seasons, Orr has spent a lot of time with linebacker Roquan Smith. Smith stated his eagerness for Orr to take over as DC in a statement issued by the squad.
