Ben Knapper - Submissions - Cut Out Player Faces MegapackShould promotion be gained at the conclusion of the season, Ben Knapper, the new sports director of Norwich City, is adamant that the club has the necessary foundations in place to establish itself in the Premier League.

Knapper recently made the switch from Arsenal, where he had spent 13 years, most recently as loan manager, to the Canaries.

After serving as Norwich’s sporting director for six and a half years, including two Premier League promotions, Stuart Webber was replaced by him.

But during that time, the team was also demoted twice, a record Knapper is keen to break should the team return to the top division in the near future.

“Everyone is aware of the magnitude of that task. There is a significant disparity in terms of resources, firepower, and club size, but that is the difficulty, he stated.

“Especially considering the past struggles we’ve faced at that level, it only serves to increase our motivation to attempt and discover a solution that might result in a different conclusion.

“You look now in the Premier League and there’s clubs that are making an absolute real fist of it that people would have written off, so absolutely it can be achieved.”

After a string of victories that has moved the Canaries to within one point of the Championship play-off spots, confidence is beginning to grow at Carrow Road.

It contrasts sharply.

When asked if it was difficult to ignore those calls, Knapper responded, “It’s crucial that you maintain composure and use reason.
“I would always require time. Naturally, I was aware of a lot of the chatter, but I was always very clear about it personally.”

Norwich may need to sell off some of its valuable assets in the summer in order to balance the books if they are unable to meet their goals and parachute payments have stopped.

Knapper acknowledges that it might be difficult to retain Jonny Rowe, a quality midfielder, and Gabriel Sara at Carrow Road in the long run. Rowe, in particular, has been strongly connected to other teams.

“Financially, that’s something that we’re always talking about with the club,” he stated.

“Yes, eventually, players like Rowe and Gabriel Sara will have significant market value because there will be change.

Therefore, there is some pressure, but we’re also talking a lot about when is the ideal time in the club right now. Thus, it is indeed something that is examined on a regular basis.”
