Due to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 25% ownership stake in United—which is still pending Premier League approval—the team did not make any additions to its roster in January.

With United presently eight points outside of the top four in the league, the remaining players will aim to impress the INEOS staff, who will take over as United’s football operations, as well as have a strong FA Cup run.

Though the transfer market in Europe has closed, three senior players could still depart this week.

Christian Eriksen may leave Old Trafford; the Turkish transfer is expected to conclude on Friday, February 9. Eriksen has been linked to a move to Galatasaray.

ESPN reports that the team is thinking about pursuing Eriksen prior to their deadline in Turkey, but there isn’t much hope that a deal can be reached.

Eriksen may yet decide to leave United, although Galatasaray is said to be more interested in signing him in the forthcoming summer.

Similarly, earlier in the transfer window, it was reported that Fenerbahce had made a bid for Anthony Martial, who is sidelined with a groin injury and only has six months left on his United contract.

Fenerbahce was reportedly the front-runner to sign the midfielder after submitting a proposal of £6.8 million in January, according to Sky Sports. There is still time for the Turkish club to make another deal before the transfer season shuts, even though they might reconsider in the summer.

Raphael Varane’s contract with United is also slated to expire at the end of the current campaign, and he has been linked to a move to Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.

The Frenchman is currently out of favor and may be lured to Major League Soccer in the upcoming weeks or months, even if their transfer window is closed.

The US transfer window is open from Monday, January 31 to Monday, April 24. If Varane is still having trouble getting into games, he might consider moving back home.

When Ronaldo participated in a shocking Talk TV interview with Piers Morgan in November 2022, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner attacked United, manager Erik ten Hag, and the club’s owners, the Glazer family, causing a huge outcry.

The Portugal legend mentioned three players in the interview who he thought had been “top professionals” during his second stint at Old Trafford.

When asked who players he looked up to, Ronaldo said, “I can think of [Diogo] Dalot at Manchester United.” He’s young but extremely professional, and given his intelligence, professionalism, and youth, I have no doubts about his ability to play football for a long time.

I’ll go with Dalot, though Casemiro is in his 30s, so it’s probably [Lisandro] Martinez.”

It looks like Casemiro, one of the few professionals that Ronaldo admires, will be leaving United in less than 18 months from when he joined the team.
