James Brown Grateful to Sign with UNC

In January 2023, James Brown—ranked 71st overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite—announced his commitment to play basketball at UNC. More than a year later, the 6-foot-9, 210-pound four-star is trying to persuade Jasper Johnson, a sharpshooting guard for Link Academy (Mo.), a five-star teammate, to follow suit.

Brown shared a photo of himself with Johnson on Friday while sporting Tar Heel attire. Johnson is ranked 12th among his 2025 contemporaries, however he hasn’t ruled out being reclassified to 2024 entirely. Johnson was mentioned in the tweet by Brown, who asked his fans to “like” it if they thought Johnson “would look good in a North Carolina shirt too”

Jasper Johnson, who was up in Lexington, Kentucky, and is an acknowledged longtime fan of UNC basketball, recently returned from an official visit to Chapel Hill. He attended the game with Holy Innocents Episcopal (Ga.) forward Caleb Wilson, another five-star 2025 target, to witness the No. 3 Tar Heels defeat their archrival, now-No. 9 Duke.

Johnson told recruiting insider Adam Zagoria, “It was a wonderful visit. “I’m getting the impression that [Hubert Davis and his staff] want me to start off strong and have a significant influence right away.

“Although I’ll probably stay in the class of 2025 to give my body an extra year before college, reclassifying is always an option.” In 2024 or 2025, I think I’d be a great fit at a few different colleges, but I’ll simply have to wait patiently.”

There aren’t any 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions for this race.

There are just 10 teams left: UNC, Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Missouri, Southern California, and West Virginia. Johnson will visit Kentucky this weekend and then Auburn the following weekend.
