Adrian Wojnarowski, three-time NBA champion Mitch Kupchak, who oversaw Michael Jordan’s front office at the Charlotte Hornets, is stepping down. The Brooklyn Nets associate general manager Jeff Peterson is one of the front-runners to take his place.

In May 2019, Peterson became a member of the Nets while the organization was preparing for the Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving trade that sent them to Brooklyn. Trajan Langdon, a potential candidate for the Hornets position, was replaced by him and fellow assistant general manager Andy Birdsong. Currently, Langdon is the New Orleans Pelicans’ general manager.

Employees of the Nets thought that Peterson, who joined Brooklyn from the Hawks organization, would have the inside word when Kupchak finally announced his retirement as long as a year ago. Two other possibilities, Travis Schlenk of Washington and Wes Wilcox of Sacramento, are also acquainted with Rick Schnall, one of the Hornets’ two new owners. Rick Schnall was formerly a minority owner in Atlanta.
