One could argue that the offensive line of the Baltimore Ravens is among the greatest in football when it’s healthy. Naturally, injuries are a part of the game, and this season the Ravens suffered with a fair share of them, as only John Simpson, one of their starting five, was able to participate in all five regular season games. The Ravens need to strengthen their offensive line because both starting guards Kevin Zeitler and Simpson are set to reach free agency. According to CBS Sports, Baltimore will select Georgia standout Amarius Mims in the first round of the NFL Draft. When healthy, Mims can rank in the top ten; however, he missed a large portion of the 2023 campaign due to injury.

The irony here is that the offensive line for the Ravens has struggled with injuries, and Baltimore chooses an offensive lineman who faces similar challenges. Given that Mims missed half of the 2023 season, his selection as a first-round pick indicates his talent. But with Mims, the Ravens would be receiving a tremendous tackle with a ton of upside. His stature (6-7, 340lbs) and remarkable quickness and explosiveness allow him to perform well in a variety of situations and might make him a franchise cornerstone.
Given that Lamar Jackson in Todd Monken’s scheme had the most pass attempts in his career (307), adding Mims, who is excellent at pass protection, feels like a smart pick. One of Mims’ strongest suits is pass protection.

Although Mims is labeled as a right tackle, the Ravens may possibly be interested in him due to his versatility in playing other positions along the offensive line. How high Mims gets taken in the draft will ultimately depend on how well his injury problems are resolved during the process, but when fit, he might be considered among the top tackles available.
