The Baggies overcame the Welsh team by a score of two goals, thanks to goals from Mikey Johnston in the opening thirty seconds and Andi Weimann’s effort in the 80th minute. With the win, West Brom moved up to fifth place, but they also closed the gap on Ipswich Town to eight points and gained four points over teams outside the play-offs.

The Baggies are attempting to secure the contracts of two of its players, according to Carlos Corberan.

Both Cedric Kipre and Alex Mowatt were absent from the team during the previous campaign. Following their individual loan stints at Middlesbrough and Cardiff City, the two have returned to The Hawthorns with renewed vigor.

Since Kipre and Mowatt’s contracts expire in the summer, WBA is currently looking to extend their time with the team. The manager has disclosed that he is not participating in negotiations and that the hierarchy is trying to keep them at the club.

“It is something I know the club is having conversations with them, to see if the club’s targets – with the players we want, want to keep working with us so that in both parts we have the desire to keep working together,” Corberan stated in an interview with the Express & Star.

The players’ financial expectations and the club’s financial capabilities are equally significant. Those are the two areas that require attention.

However, I am aware that the team is speaking with the players, that many of them have completed their contracts, and that something will likely happen in the upcoming days, weeks, or months.

However, as a coach, I am not pursuing this topic because it is not one of my goals. Although I work closely with the club, I do not oversee any kind of interaction.

Other West Brom players with expiring contracts in the summer of 2024 include Martin Kelly, Erik Pieters, Matt Phillips, Nathaniel Chalobah, and Adam Reach. Tom Fellows, an academy product, recently signed a new contract with the team despite Everton and Leicester City’s interest.

“Very likely” midfielder comes back
Flynn Downes is expected to return to Southampton on Friday night. With 23 appearances, two assists, and one goal this season, the West Ham midfielder on loan has been an important member of Southampton’s midfield.

Bristol City interrupted the Saints’ 25-man unbeaten streak, as Downes was not in the lineup. Leeds United moved up to capture the second automatic promotion position from Southampton.

In response to a query from the Daily Echo on Downes and Adams’ availability, Russell Martin stated, “I hope so.” We’ll just have to wait and see since there’s a good probability.
