Dave Helman takes a seat to discuss the Dallas Cowboys’ potential offseason plans! Helman discusses whether Dak Prescott and Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys will still be together in the episode.

The Dallas Cowboys are preparing an extension for superstar Dak Prescott. It’s a pact they need to resolve imminently.

According to NFL Media, the Cowboys are hoping to renegotiate Prescott’s contract before the start of free agency in mid-March to offer them more cap flexibility because he has a $59.455 million 2024 cap hit. Prescott will presumably once again be paid among the top salaries in the league by the team. With a no-tag clause in his contract approaching its last year, the three-time Pro Bowler is effectively forcing the Cowboys to negotiate an extension this offseason in order to keep Prescott from becoming a free agency.
The 30-year-old signal-caller, who came in second to Lamar Jackson in the MVP voting, is coming off what may have been his greatest season to date. With just nine interceptions, Prescott tossed for 4,516 yards and a league-high 36 touchdowns. Among full-time starts, he had the second-best passer rating (105.9) and completion percentage (69.5).

In addition, he guided Dallas to their third straight postseason berth and the NFC East championship. But for the second time in three years, the Cowboys were defeated in the wild-card round. Green Bay outplayed Dallas despite Prescott’s 403 yards and three touchdowns through the air (along with two interceptions, including a pick-six).

Prescott would be getting his second lucrative extension in his career. After becoming as one of the NFL’s better quarterbacks during his rookie contract, the former fourth-round pick was one of the finest deals in sport. After playing the 2020 season under the exclusive franchise tag, he inked a $160 million, four-year contract. Since then, the Cowboys have finished 12-5 every season, but they have only won two postseason games in Prescott’s eight-year career and just one during this time.

Dallas has had the second-longest conference drought, having missed the NFC championship game since the 1995 season.
