Vontrell King-Williams, the recently promoted defensive tackles coach at Auburn, will earn $500,000 year under a new two-year contract starting in early February, citing a copy of his contract that AL.com obtained through a public records request.

On February 9, Auburn reported that King-Williams, an analyst on staff, had been promoted. A role as an on-field position coach became available when former defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett allegedly accepted a comparable offer from the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this month.

Josh Aldridge, the former coach of the linebackers, was moved to train the edge rushers, while King-Williams was designated the defensive tackles coach. The linebackers will be coached by D.J. Durkin, the new defensive coordinator.

Although King-Williams’ deal has the same bonus structure as earlier Auburn assistant coach contracts, it does not contain any retention benefits.

In the event King-Williams is dismissed, the contract provides a full buyout, and if he finds success as a new coach before his Auburn contract expires on January 31, 2026, there is a mitigating clause.

King-Williams will repay Auburn one year’s compensation if he leaves before the end of the 2024 season in order to take a position somewhere before his contract expires. If he leaves before the 2025 season is over, he will be obligated to pay $125,000.

If King-Williams departs for an NFL position as an NFL play-calling coordinator, college head coach, or any other role, those sums owing to Auburn are forfeited.
