The Argentine is a World Cup winner and he even won the Yashin Trophy last year off the back of his incredible performances for both club and country.

Man Utd backed to pull off risky Aston Villa raid after Liverpool, Man City rejection claim

The £20m man is truly a star these days, but it wasn’t too long ago that he was nothing more than a fringe player at Arsenal.

Indeed, Martinez barely had a sniff at Arsenal for most of his eight years in north London, but after a run in the team towards the end of the 2019/20 season, he got a move to Aston Villa that would change everything.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Premier League YouTube channel, Petr Cech has been discussing his former teammate’s recent development, and he says that Martinez has improved so much since leaving Arsenal.

Emi Martinez has improved since leaving Arsenal

Cech shared his verdict on his former Gunners deputy.

“The other two obvious ones, and we’ve seen the change at Arsenal, Emi Martinez is another one. The way since he left Arsenal and started playing at Aston Villa, became the number one for Argentina, a world champion he’s really gone in the right direction and he’s doing really well,” Cech said.

One that escaped
We can’t help but believe Martinez was a mistake on Arsenal’s part.

With David Raya, Aaron Ramsdale, and Bernd Leno all holding the top spot at various times in the goalkeeping rankings, the Gunners have experienced their fair share of goalkeeping problems in recent years.

But maybe Arsenal wouldn’t have had to make such a goalkeeping change in recent years if they had just held with Martinez.

It’s true that no one anticipated Martinez’s amazing climb, but the Gunners did commit a small error in this situation.
