Sean Payton stepping away from Saints in NFL stunnerWith a long offseason ahead of them, the Denver Broncos can resolve their quarterback dilemma. Although Russell Wilson does not now appear to be the best fit for Sean Payton’s scheme, arrangements may yet be made. In the long run, though, the company might still look for someone to take the position of the aging star. Baker Mayfield is a prime example. The head coach of the Broncos may be moving, even though Todd Bowles and the Tampa Bay Bucs want him to stay.

Sean Payton was asked which quarterbacks in the league are unfairly despised in an interview with USA TODAY. Baker Mayfield’s name was brought up right away by the Broncos head coach, who also made some somewhat intriguing remarks.

“I’m sure that freakin’ Baker was one of them. But then, all of a sudden, you know what? The script flips and all of us are like, ‘We love Baker.’ I’m looking for Baker, like where’s he at? He’s a free agent, you know,” was the hilarious answer that Payton had.

Now, this might just be him having fun in the Super Bowl media room. But, there might be something for the Buccaneers quarterback if he heads to the Broncos. For one, they have a decent receiving corps and just need a better offensive line come next season. Another is that Russell Wilson has been having trouble with the organization after he was benched late last year.

Mayfield recently finished his best-ever season in 2023. He had a 94.6 rating and 4,044 throwing yards. In addition, he only gave up 10 interceptions while throwing 28 touchdowns. Wilson has only gained 3,070 yards this season, so the Broncos might gain from this. Is this jest going to become a devious free-agency move in the end?
