Beneath me is Brennan Johnson. Naturally, I had that injury, and I had just returned from my first away game at Everton. As I boarded the coach, the seats had been rearranged, but I took back the seat next to Brennan. We share a wide range of interests.

Who do you sit next to most when travelling to away games?

“My parents and my partner Kennedy. My dad would be my first choice if it’s football-related, my partner if it’s general life issues, and my mother if it’s anything in between.”

Who is the most skilful in the team?

“I would have said Becks (David Beckham) before but I got to meet him so now I would say Adele, she’s got a great voice and looks like she’s good fun too.”

Where did you make your professional debut?

When we shared a ground with Northampton Town, the match took place at Sixfields Stadium, which is home to Coventry City. A home game in front of roughly 500 supporters was played since the fans were boycotting the team because of problems with the owners. It was an unusual experience, to say the least.

“Maybe the Maldives, I’ve never been and it always looks like a beautiful and very relaxed place to visit.”

“I adore going straight into the heart of things, to neighbourhoods like Soho and Mayfair; I adore local markets, street food, and small retail centres. London is filled with so many breathtaking locations.”

“I have a lot of framed and wall-mounted shirts that I’ve traded for jerseys of famous players I’ve faced, such Eden Hazard, Cristian Ronaldo, and Erling Haaland, in addition to my own jerseys that hold special meaning for me from championship and pivotal matches. My belongings are mostly dispersed across the house.

“My kids now occupy the majority of my time. I enjoy spending time with them doing simple things, like taking my son to creche, which are things that I can’t always do because of football. My current pastime is pool; I recently acquired a new table for my house and have developed a strong interest in it. In conclusion, kids, darts and snooker!”

I’ve represented England in five different games, and each one is a proud moment. My first and second caps were quite far apart, but perhaps there will be many more in the future.”

“Having that duty improves your life, even though it hasn’t transformed me as a person in the traditional sense. It is no longer possible for you to be the centre of attention if you wish to be a good father. Nothing compares to the joy your children bring you when they see you laughing and enjoying yourselves.”

“I would call this part of my career ‘The beginning of something special’ – and I really do feel that.”

“Being bad at a game. I could argue that I’m losing, but occasionally you can win and celebrate your victory, but your performance was still subpar, and it will aggravate and anger me that I haven’t performed to my full potential. I try not to do that too frequently.”

“Happy Valley would rank highly among my favourite shows, and I watched every episode of 24 in addition to my beloved Line of Duty. Those three will do for me.”

“I think I was a striker initially, I was pretty good technically as a kid and when you’re young, they tend to put the best player up front, then I worked my way back into midfield.”

It was Jason Mraz’s song “I’m Yours.” Though the effort was there, I botched it instead of smashing it.”
