Russell Wilson will be cut by the Denver Broncos before the 2024 training camp opens, according to everyone and their mother. Mile High City saw the failure of the Russell Wilson experiment, and Sean Payton is currently searching for a replacement quarterback to take the position of the former Super Bowl victor.

They lack the draft capital to select the field general of their choice from the excellent 2024 QB class, and there aren’t many viable alternatives to Mr Unlimited in the free-agent market.

Thankfully for Broncos Country, there is one name being discussed as a possible Wilson substitute. But there’s good reason to be concerned about his performance from last season.

The Denver Broncos are Mac Jones’ preferred destination.
The suggestion for resolving the Russell Wilson dilemma is to get Mac Jones, another quarterback in exile.

Although some Broncos supporters might object to Wilson being replaced by a signal caller who couldn’t work out with the Patriots, Josh Buckhalter of Heavy noted that Wilson was unable to persuade Payton that he’s the best candidate for the position:

For his part, Payton has acknowledged that he hasn’t “fallen in love” with a quarterback just yet. Furthermore, Wilson did not fit his description of the qualities he is seeking in a quarterback.

However, that is consistent with what rookie quarterback Mac Jones of the New England Patriots shown.

That was Derrik Klassen of 33rd Team’s case for Jones in 2018 and 2019, particularly, as a possible fit and reclamation project for Payton similar to Teddy Bridgewater.

The Denver Broncos will find Mac Jones to be an intriguing addition, as he demonstrated his quarterbacking prowess throughout his time in Alabama and in his rookie campaign.

But his 2023 stats showed that he was anything but efficient; in just 11 games, he finished with 2120 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. If he hopes to surpass Wilson’s 3070 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and eight picks, he will need to make significant progress.

The Denver Broncos will face a formidable task in developing Jones into a potent quarterback if they choose to pull this off. Otherwise, if Mr. Unlimited were to recapture his form in New England, they would appear to be the ones who made mistakes.
