Raiders' Offensive Shake-Up: Rich Scangarello as QB Coach and the Quarterback Conundrum

Scangarello, who spent the 2009 NFL season as an offensive quality control and assistant quarterbacks coach, will be making his second appearance with the Raiders.

Scangarello recently worked as the University of Kentucky’s offensive coordinator in 2022. Only a few days after the team’s last regular season game, he was sacked.

Prior to Kentucky, Scangarello was the quarterbacks coach for the San Francisco 49ers in the 2021 NFL season. Jimmy Garoppolo, the quarterback for the Raiders, was under Scangarello’s tutelage, and according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter last week, he is anticipated to be cut by the team before he receives his bonus. The 49ers were defeated by the eventual Super Bowl champions, the Los Angeles Rams, in the NFC Championship game that Garoppolo guided San Francisco to that season.

The previous season, Scangarello was a senior offensive assistant with the Philadelphia Eagles.

That tenure came after Scangarello’s one-year tenure as the Broncos’ offensive coordinator, during which time the team ranked 28th in the league in terms of total offensive yards.

Prior to assuming that position, Scangarello was the 49ers’ first quarterbacks coach in 2017 and 2018, which coincided with Garoppolo’s first two seasons in San Francisco.

Scangarello was Wagner College’s offensive coordinator before to moving to San Francisco. He has coached college football for eighteen years, the most recent of which was at Kentucky.

From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.

The NFL Draft is scheduled for April 25–27, 2024, in Detroit, Michigan. The No. 13 overall pick is presently in the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders.
