Ravens supporters should be ready for mock draft season as there won’t be any actual football for a few months. The squad must excel in the draft if they hope to return to the Super Bowl at last. Geno Stone, Odell Beckham, Patrick Queen, Justin Madubuike, and Jadeveon Clowney are all approaching free agency, and Baltimore lacks the financial means to retain all of them. Ladd McConkey, a wide receiver from Georgia, is the Ravens’ first-choice pick in Mike Kashuba’s most recent mock draft, despite the fact that it is impossible to solve all three weaknesses with one selection.
We need to talk about McConkey’s skill set as a player before we can talk about how well he fits with the Ravens in this mock draft. Ladd McConkey can get open at all three levels of the field, making him a cunning route runner. Despite having trouble staying healthy during his time in college, he proved at the Senior Bowl just how good he can be. The Georgia product won the competition and looked absolutely unguardable throughout sessions, sporting a manly appearance amid lads.
McConkey’s size is his greatest flaw in his game. Even though he can move quickly and nimbly to reach the open field, he can be a liability in contested situations. The Georgia graduate, who is unofficially classified at 5’11” and 187 pounds, has a thinner physique than the average wide receiver, which could cause problems for him when he has to deal with media attention. Furthermore, wide receivers who declare early for the NFL Draft typically perform better statistically than guys who wait until their senior year. Though it’s important to remember that there are undoubtedly exceptions to this rule.
Despite those concerns, McConkey deserves to be a first-round pick. He has the talent to be a difference-maker at the position, and there is no such thing as too many good weapons in today’s pass-happy NFL. The only question is if Ladd McConkey is the right fit for the Ravens mock draft.
