Lewis O’Brien, a midfielder for Nottingham Forest, is just returning from a terrible injury, yet on Saturday he was instrumental in Middlesbrough’s stunning victory over Leicester City.

His performance left Teesside Live quite impressed, awarding him a high score for his performance.

For O’Brien, the past two years have been extremely frustrating, especially after Huddersfield’s Championship play-off final defeat at the hands of Forest.

The 25-year-old, who was formerly with the Terriers, joined Forest and played for the Reds for 17 games in the first half of the season.

Surprisingly, he was left out of the 25-man roster for the second half of 2022–2023 and went on loan to D.C. United.

O’Brien joined Middlesbrough in the summer after failing to persuade Steve Cooper that he should be included in the Forest team.

Tragically, he needed surgery for a leg injury that would keep him out for four months after just five games.

He’s now on the path to recovery; on Saturday, he participated in his fifth game in a row and received a 9/10 rating from the local media.

“Not long back from a serious injury, this was a real quality performance that Boro believed they would be getting when they signed him in the summer,” according to Teesside Live.

In addition to providing defensive support, “his energy was unmatched throughout and he seemed to be at the center of almost every promising counter-attack Boro went on, including the first goal.”
