On Sept. 25, the Dallas Cowboys, led by owner Jerry Jones (center), took a knee prior to the national anthem before an NFL football game against the Arizona Cardinals, in Glendale, Ariz. Now he says players who "disrespect the flag" won't play.

In 2023, following yet another early playoff exit, “America’s Team” might benefit from some change. These actions would undoubtedly spark national conversation Bring Zeke back.Cowboys owner Jerry Jones still loves the spotlight in his 80s, despite reasons to shrink from it | AP News

Ezekiel Elliott, the backup running back for New England, finished the 2017 season with 642 yards and three touchdowns on the ground in addition to receiving 313 yards and two more scores. Behind starter Tony Pollard, Dallas running backs Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn amassed 401 yards in total.

The only running backs contracted for 2024 are Vaughn, Malik Davis, and Hunter Luepke as Dowdle (restricted) and Pollard are both free agents.

Elliott could have been willing to re-sign with the Cowboys if he had agreed to take a lower offer than $3 million, according to a report from Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram last year. Elliott in a complementary role could not do worse for the Cowboys, who are already $16 million over the salary cap.

Exchange Dak Prescott

Getting anything for the quarterback now would be wise if the Cowboys don’t intend to extend him. The team may remove $34 million from their cap with a trade made after June 1 if they choose not to reset the market with Prescott. Where would he go, though?

Chicago, according to K.D. Drummond of USA Today, is a possibility. If the Bears decide to build around a seasoned quarterback, they have plenty of flexibility because to Justin Fields’ rookie contract and holding the first overall choice.

The Raiders, what say you? In the 2024 NFL Draft, Las Vegas is unlikely to select a quality quarterback with the 13th pick. Washington, what say you? Would the Commanders swap out the No. 2 spot for Prescott and picks? Brian Johnson, the pass game coordinator that Washington recently hired, coached Prescott’s quarterbacking staff at Mississippi State.

Given the impetuous personality of club owner and general manager Jerry Jones, none of these eventualities are implausible, even though they may appear unlikely.

Sign Chris Jones

Ownership would have to think outside the box, but the Cowboys need someone to play defense in the upcoming season, so why not one of the top defensive ends in the league? There’s room on the roster for a five-time Pro Bowler with Dorance Armstrong, Dante Fowler Jr., Jonathan Hankins, and Neville Gallimore all approaching free agency.

Although Jones’ return to Kansas City is uncertain, the Chiefs recently selected an option that would let them to utilize a $19.75 million franchise tag to keep him. Secondary players like Mike Edwards and L’Jarius Sneed are also expected to enter the market.
