When the St. Louis Battlehawks revealed on Friday that the former Alabama All-American will be rejoining the squad for another spring season, it was the other shoe that dropped for AJ McCarron.
The news came after the Cincinnati Bengals announced on Wednesday that the quarterback had been released by the NFL team, making him a free agent who could join with any team right now.
Last season, McCarron topped the XFL in touchdown passes, completion %, and passing efficiency rating while serving as the quarterback for the St. Louis Cardinals.
St. Louis was among four XFL franchises that joined four USFL franchises to form the United Football League. The UFL teams start training camp later this month, and the inaugural season kicks off on March 30.
Following the injury, McCarron was unable to play football until he joined the Battlehawks.
