Georgia Football will soon have a new head coach. Dell McGee might be the one this time. According to Graham Coffey of The Players Lounge, Georgia’s running back coach will take over as Georgia State’s head coach.

McGee has worked under Kirby Smart at Georgia since the beginning, in 2016, when Smart took over. According to reports released on Wednesday, Buster Faulkner, the current offensive coordinator at Georgia Tech, and McGee, a former offensive analyst for Georgia, were the front-runners.

Neither Georgia State nor the University of Georgia have provided any confirmation, nor has McGee made any official statements. The Dawgs will have new wide receiver and running back coaches in the same offseason, if the claim is true. Additionally, as McClendon and McGee coach their respective positions and serve as coordinators of the running and passing games, Smart will take over those positions.

Now for the fan’s viewpoint. Nothing has been spoken by those concerned in this situation for more than twenty-four hours. After that, this tweet appeared.

I do not want McGee to attend Georgia State, in case you could not tell by now. I want him to stay for at least another year, selfishly! McGee has been a pillar of support for the Dawgs ever since Kirby Smart took coach.

With the exception of one running back, McGee has had a significant part in the development of some of the top backs to ever come out of Georgia. He was already superior to Holyfield, Sony, Chubb, and Swift. Because they detested him, McGee and Smart chose not to play him. Furthermore, I fail to see why someone would leave Georgia to take a head coaching position at a G5 university. It likely pays similarly and has greater responsibilities. George Costanza once said, “Never take a job with more responsibility for a small pay raise.” I always abide by this advice. Merely receiving the acknowledgement you “deserve” does not guarantee pleasure. In light of this, I fail to see McGee’s decision to quit his comfortable position and enroll at Georgia State.

In the event that McGee does leave, Georgia will need to hire a replacement coach within a month or so, as spring practice is scheduled to begin in late March. Kirby Smart is going to be quite busy.
