Kirby Smart: Our Goal Is To Strike Fear In Our Opponent - YouTubeFollowing Dell McGee’s departure to Georgia State as their next head coach, the Bulldogs have added a staff member. According to Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports, rumors have it that James Coley will be the next wide receiver coach for the Georgia Bulldogs. Bryan McClendon, a former wide receiver coach, just started working as the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Should Coley be hired by Georgia, it will be his second employment with Kirby Smart’s football team as head coach.

This is not the first time Coley will have been the receivers coach at Georgia. From 2016-2017, Coley held that same role before switching over to quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. Since leaving the Bulldogs after the 2019 season, Coley has made a stop at Texas A&M to be wide receivers coach and then switched to tight ends coach and co-offensive coordinator. He was just recently hired to be South Carolina’s wide receiver coach this next season but is now expected to make the move back to Athens.

There’s no denying the success he has had as a coach in recruiting over the years, even though his tenure as offensive coordinator may not be well regarded. The Bulldogs should benefit at wide receiver from his track record of constantly drawing in top talent from the SEC.
