MLB players poised to break out in 2024Jorge Soler, an outfielder, signed a three-year, $42 million contract with the San Francisco Giants last week. It seems that they didn’t first consider him to satisfy their big-bopper requirements.

The Giants made an offer to J.D. Martinez prior to signing Soler, according to a story published on Friday by Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Heyman, however, claims that Martinez “didn’t want to go there.”

Martinez declined the Giants, which is somewhat fascinating because he is still unsigned. Furthermore, he wouldn’t be the first player to feel that way if that was the reason he didn’t want to play in San Francisco.

Giants great Buster Posey stated in December that he frequently hears from players and their families that they would prefer not to live in San Francisco because of the city’s drug and crime problems. Posey is working to assist the organization sign free agents. Recently, a pitcher for the Giants revealed he had heard the same thing.

Although it’s unclear if Martinez was similarly discouraged by it, it seems like San Francisco was not a desirable place for him to settle down.

Martinez is 36 years old, and he is still going strong. The designated hitter played in 113 games for the Dodgers last season, recording 27 doubles, 33 home runs, and a.893 OPS. He has spent three years in a row as an All-Star.
