On Match of the Day, Nuno’s choice to substitute Moussa Niakhate for the injured Nuno Tavares during Nottingham Forest’s loss to Aston Villa was questioned.
Ian Wright, a pundit, called Nuno’s choice to select center-back Niakhate over Tavares in left defense rather than Harry Toffolo a “strange decision.” He referred to Forest’s 4-2 Premier League loss at Villa Park as “sloppy” defending.
Assessing the defeat, host Gary Lineker said: “Forest have struggled on their travels haven’t they. They’ll get some comfort I suppose from coming back from three down to 3-2 to get themselves back in the game.”
“Yeah, but when you look at the way they gave away the fourth goal, which for me was the decisive goal, was really sloppy,” replied Wright.

Niakhate got one back for the visitors before the break and looked more comfortable when he reverted to his more familiar centre-back spot for the second half. Forest were better all round after the break, and they pulled it back to 3-2 through Morgan Gibbs-White before they shot themselves in the foot with another defensive mistake.
“Tavares is injured. He got injured in the West Ham game and is going to be out for a while.”
Nuno did bring Toffolo on at the break as one of three substitutions. Centre-backs Murillo and Felipe were hooked after each picking up a booking, while Taiwo Awoniyi also came off, with Divock Origi and Andrew Omobamidele entering the fray.
