Sources have told CowboysSI.com that the Dallas Cowboys would probably concentrate more on the NFL Draft than on signing a high-profile free agent, with the latter process starting on March 11 with the start of the league’s “legal tampering period.”
However, that reality hasn’t stopped rumors that Dallas would go “all in” with a big-name signing in addition to the apparent choice to forego applying the franchise tag to Tony Pollard.
And so, as we discuss in the Fish Podcast and the Fish Report, along comes another attempt to connect Saquon Barkley to Dallas.
This idea builds on the absurd theory put forth by former general manager of the New York Jets Mike Tannenbaum on ESPN, who described Barkley as “a perfect fit” for the Dallas backfield.
Our ideas? There is nothing wrong with the athlete; Barkley might be the top back in the NFL when healthy and playing for a successful club, at least that’s our opinion. (We note that he only scored 3.9, despite all of that.)
One: There is no “perfect fit” – ever. But there is especially no perfect fit if analysts like Griffin continue to ignore salary-cap realities. (We’re not shocked that RGIII misses this; we’re disturbed that a former GM does.)
Barkley at the right price would be a terrific “fit” for every team. But what is that price? We can’t make a match until we know the answer.
