Dallas Cowboys Suffer COVID-19 Outbreak During Losing StreakThe squad has had to evaluate how it can get better for the upcoming season ever since the Dallas Cowboys were unexpectedly eliminated by the Green Bay Packers. Unfortunately, giving up on Michael Gallup and his $57.5 million deal is among the first things that might be done.
The Cowboys performed admirably during the regular season, winning the NFC East division with a 12-5 record. Dallas received the best seed as a result just before the playoffs began.

The Cowboys were spectacularly defeated by a Jordan Love-led Packers squad, even though they had one of the finest defenses and offenses in the NFL. Dallas lost to a seventh-seeded team, despite facing the youngest team in the league, and became the first team to do so since the bracket was expanded in the 2021 playoffs.

The front administration must now decide how to improve the roster that surrounds Dak Prescott throughout the summer. It appears that Dallas may consider letting Gallup go in addition to pursuing important players in the draft or free agency.

Gallup isn’t the same player he once was, as the previous season shown. In an ESPN piece, Aaron Schatz outlines the reasons the Cowboys would be better off cutting the wide receiver:

“Last season, he was the clear third among the Cowboys’ main receivers. He ranked 59th in receiving DYAR out of 81 qualifying receivers. By comparison, CeeDee Lamb was third and  was 28th after coming on strong in the second half of the season.

A regular cut of Gallup would leave a ton of dead money on the Cowboys’ cap. But a post-June 1 cut would give the Cowboys $9.5 million in extra cap space with $4.4 million in dead money. That extra cap space would help the Cowboys, who are currently $20 million over the cap for 2024,” Schatz wrote.

That extra breathing room will prove to be useful when Dallas moves in on key guys in free agency or to retain important players in the current roster. In any case, it seems Gallup’s time with the Cowboys is going to be numbered.
