The NBA’s elite players came together last Sunday in Indiana for the 2024 All-Star game, which pitted East against West.

Tyrese Maxey made his debut for the Philadelphia 76ers on one of the biggest stages in the history of the game.

Prior to Maxey and the other All-Stars taking the court on Sunday, Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns gave the young Sixers guard some serious props.

With 14 All-Star selections, six All-NBA First Team honours, two NBA Finals MVPs, and an NBA MVP trophy on his resume, Durant has faced criticism throughout his career for joining superteams in the past, but there’s no disputing he’s been one of the best players in the game since entering the NBA as the second overall pick in 2007. Maxey was honoured to hear the Suns superstar acknowledge him.

Following his 2020 entry from Kentucky into the NBA, Maxey has received high praise from his peers. Four years in, the 23-year-old is enjoying a career season by averaging 26 points, six assists, and four rebounds while shooting 38 percent from beyond the arc. “You have to appreciate that,” Maxey told For the Win. “He is one of the greatest, honestly. As kids, we looked up to him when we were growing up. He is probably one of the most unguardable players to ever play the game of basketball. To have that recognition from him is much love, and I really appreciate him for that.”

Though he still has a ways to go before he can be considered a legend in the game, the Sixers have a potential All-Star for many years to come in Kevin Durant, who has signed on as a cosigner.
