The Baltimore Orioles and former Atlanta Braves All-Star Julio Teheran have reached an agreement as the team searches for pitching staff depth. He was a part of the Milwaukee Brewers organization in 2023.

The Baltimore Orioles have signed former All-Star Julio Teheran to a minor league contract in an effort to bolster their pitching staff.

According to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman:

Teheran Julio to the Orioles. Kids respond to invitations to MLB camps. $2M in majors, plus an opt-out and signing bonus of $100,000

With the Braves, Los Angeles Angels, Detroit Tigers, and Milwaukee Brewers, Teheran has pitched in portions of twelve major league seasons. In 2021–2022, he played in just one game. The next year, in 2023, he returned to Milwaukee and made 11 starts.

He is 33 years old and had a 4.40 ERA in the previous season, going 3-5. He’s 81-82 lifetime with a 3.83. Teheran has five different seasons with ten or more wins, and he was selected to the Braves All-Star team in both 2014 and 2016.

As far as the Orioles reasons for signing him, it all centers on the health of its pitching staff. Baltimore will likely open the season with both John Means and Kyle Bradish on the injured list. For an O’s team that won 101 games last season and has World Series aspirations, they don’t want to see an injured staff derail their season. They’ve acquired Corbin Burnes in an offseason deal with the Brewers and now are adding Teheran, who could win a starting spot or could potentially be a bullpen piece.
